Buoyancy — A Free Verse Poem

Buoyancy

Rivulets wind ‘round, drip free of me
the overflow of me
the cold, languid shock of me
adrift in these deep waters

the expanse, the surface tension
gripping me, the bloated and floating me,
currents shift, concentric circles
press out from me… and I, bereft, afloat.

skittering water striders span
the pools of shadow and disappear
quick as ghosts

Here, a water hyacinth for my hair
a wide arc of curls sinking under,
the garbled frog-songs, the rippled
water sounds fill my ears and hum.
