MEDIUM

How I Wish Medium Would ‘Show Me’ What to Read

Imagine this…Medium as a doorway and not a gatekeeper.

Medium.com is a fantastic place to write your stories and read what others have written. But the gatekeeping is out of hand.

Medium screens and promotes articles based on their selective (and subjective) perceptions of quality. Somehow this is supposed to appeal to readers.

Readers do not give a flip about this. They don’t.

In the process, Medium.com has a devolving curation system that’s more a gatekeeper of stories than a help to the reader.

Shouldn’t the readers decide what pleases them to read?

Dear Medium…we don’t want your gates.

We want doors.

Medium.com Gatekeeping Is DUMB

I’ve been writing here on the Medium platform since 2019. I’ve made a nice chunk of change here. But no matter who is in charge at Medium, the broad (platform-wide) story is still the same:

  • Medium selects and promotes articles to readers.

STOP DOING THIS.

  • Medium ‘rewards’ curated pieces with more recommendations, and this is to trickle more earnings to the writer.
