I hope you meant that the laziness was on their part. I stood firm, and it was rather embarrassing the way people responded. I felt a bit alone in my opinion even though I know I was not the only one to feel that way; just the only one willing to speak up. Just because the world shows her worse does not mean that I, as a parent, should GIVE it to her. I prefer for us to tackle those hard subjects with conversation and work through them with her. If she read the book, yes it would be a platform for discussion. But Since I can’t support that being appropriate material for a middle schooler — I responded accordingly. You are totally right that people are afraid to take a stance. Thank you for your reply and highlight :)
