Thanks, Zach — you know I think you are absolutely right as well. I didn’t really address the “beginner” aspect of this. Good point. There are a lot of people however who use poetry as a form of therapeutic activity but don’t grow as a poet. They stagnate in this place of using the writing of poetry to make themselves feel better but fail to make the distinction between therapeutic poetic writing to that of the craft of creating poetry. Thanks for adding to the conversation! Also — I am sure we have all written the early stages of poetry, the crappy stuff of our youth. I have a few in high school tha I wrote and I love them. Because they show the beginnings of my poetic voice. Think of those early writings in that way and they become much more interesting.
