Did you know that young ferns are rolled up? Yes, ferns…as in, these guys:

Ferns in the forest always give me such a feeling of peace.

I write about them in my poetry. I think of their sway and bend in the lower vascular forest cover and I wonder what magical things could be living amongst these feathery plants.

Some ferns are rolled up like balls as they grow. These “rolls” are called fiddleheads. Some of them are a bit gnarly and some are elegantly beautiful but regardless…the thought some years ago came to me how much like fiddleheads we are as creators, writers, artists.

We must create. it is what we do.
